#3: Fall Statistics (Math63) more info

May 6, 2010

Greetings,

Apparently somewhere on the system there is a mention of orientation day for our Fall statistics class as being Monday August 31. Please note that the orientation is on August 31 which is on Tuesday not on Monday. Thanks and please pass the word around if any of your friends are taking this session as well. See you all at the orientation.

PS. Please read all of my 3 postings.

#2: More info on Statistics class (Fall 2010)

April 11, 2010

Greetings to all of you,

Our course fills up quickly and we generally have some students who would like to add. Per our school policy the attendance in the first class meeting which is our orientation is required to keep a student in the course. No shows will be replaced by one of the waitlisted students in order of their registration. Unfortunately I have to follow the policy to make sure that we have a fair process.

Please make sure when you come to the orientation you bring with you the followings:

1. A picture ID (A required item to verify that you are the student who is on the roster). This is required.

2. Bring your textbook and the online access code, if you have these, so we can register you into the website where the course material is located. You may also purchase the code online at our orientation meeting so you might want to bring a credit card. You can also purchase your book and the code later and do the online registration later on your own.

3. Be prepared to ask your questions.

4. Please note that we will have some in-school exams and these can’t be rescheduled. No make ups except if you were hospitalized. So be prepared to allow for these in your schedule. I will post another note regarding the exam times so you can make arrangement for them.

5. Please make sure you come to the orientation ON TIME. There will be other students who would want to add and I will need to start the orientation and will have two roll calls, one about 30 minutes into and the second towards the end. Please no complains.

I am looking forward to meeting you all soon. I am sure you will enjoy statistics this summer.

#1: Orientation Info for Statistics (Math 63 -202) Fall 2010

April 11, 2010

Dear Stat Students,

It is my pleasure to have you in my Fall 2010 Statistics class. Please don’t forget to attend my orientation on August 31, 5:30 PM in room AB121 located in the Acacia building. This is a required orientation and no shows will be dropped from the class to allow others on the wait list to register.

In the mean time here are some notes about the textbook that we will be using:

Title: Essentials of Statistics 4th edition (Custom edition)

Author: Triola

Publisher: Pearson

If you purchase the book from the school bookstore you will get the book and an access code for the online material which also includes the online copy of the textbook. This way you have basically two copies of the book, one in printed form and the other in electronic form. However if your prefer not to get the printed copy then you can only purchase an online access code which will give you access to the course and an electronic copy of the book. The access code can be purchased from the www.coursecompass.com or school’s bookstore. I suggest buying the package (book+code) since we have a special pricing negotiated with the publisher.

To get into my online course you need to do two things:

A. Enroll into Math 63, section #202 and ID#56261 with Evergreen Valley College (online or in person at the office of admissions & records). High School students need to go to the admissions office for registration.

B. Register into my website where the course material is located. To do this you need the following (this should be done after our orientation):

1. Access code for the website (www.coursecompass.com)

2. The following info about my course:

Your Course Name: Elementary Statistics
Your Course ID: To be given later at the orientation

3. A valid email address

4. After our orientation go to the www.coursecompass.com and using the above info register as a student in my section. Please make sure your name matches with your official name as used at EVC.

I will give you more detail during our orientation. See you soon.

Dr.T

PS. You need a calculator (any kind), access to a good computer and internet.
